Vaginal rejuvenation with Votiva

iStock 1299999512 Vaginal rejuvenation is something a lot of women might not even think about. But those who deal with stress urinary incontinence, skin laxity in the vaginal area, and dryness may want to speak to a professional about their options. At Northwest Women’s Center of Houston, TX, our providers offer a nonsurgical vaginal rejuvenation treatment called Votiva that is changing the way women think about their vaginal health and function.

What is Votiva?

Votiva is a specialized treatment cleared by the FDA for the nonsurgical treatment of conditions such as stress urinary incontinence and leakage associated with an overactive bladder. The treatment also helps with vaginal atrophy and laxity, decreased sensitivity and sexual comfort, dryness, and thinner vaginal tissues. The device is a wand-like handpiece that is inserted into the vaginal canal and emits radio frequency energy. This RF energy is administered at a therapeutic temperature and stimulates the production of collagen and elastin in the vaginal tissues. This helps tighten and firm the area while stimulating the regrowth of the vaginal mucosa as well.

What can I expect from Votiva treatments?

Women can expect the treatment to be a comfortable procedure that does not require anesthetics. The patient rests on the treatment table and the wand is administered by our providers into the vaginal canal. Women will experience a warming sensation when the RF energy is in action. The RF energy will not injure or burn the tissues and is often described by patients as a soothing warmth. The procedure lasts 30 minutes or less and doesn’t require any downtime or recovery.

How many treatments of Votiva will I need to see results?

Most women will see a difference after a single treatment, though women will want to consider three or more sessions for optimal improvement. Women may also continue to have maintenance treatments spaced months apart to maintain the results and slow the unwanted changes in their vaginal health and function.
